The Law of Pornographic Materials & Men’s Lust

Indonesian version:

It is very simply to guessing. To earn “blessing” from right-wingers and to kept the execution of Amrozi cs. to the background, enact a Law of Pornographic Materials although the working of its have not complete and trigger the controversial opinion. This is a cliché solution for government to gain an advantage political condition. However, the solution was very successful strategy to many cases previously, i.e. increasing the price of fuel, The Education System Act, The revision of Labor Act, etc. The death of Amrozi is necessary for “blessing” from western countries and gain a well reputed to some parties to face the election next year. Eye is given for eye, life for an honor and political advantages.

Any way, it is very simply to guessing, the victim of the law are women. The day after House of Representative legalizes the law, a television station broadcast police raid a striptease show. In the broadcast 10-15 girls, about seventeen years old were herded into police station. There are many oddities in the broadcast. Why the audience of the show—men, though it is possible women too—was not shown on the TV screen? Why there is not “the event organizer” of the show on the television? In spite of this, how could be a group of teenagers can organize by themselves for the some kind of show? Will the broadcast show the next show when they just take the dancers on the camera—because aside from dancers, anyone got in the striptease show are not camera face—although there are another persons who being arrested? On the other hand, the considerable possibilities, Do the men who enjoyed the show and pimps who run the show have big power to get away with such despicable behavior; and police have fainthearted when confront them?

The girls do not have strong bargaining position in this case. They are actually in the weak and tragic condition. At least, they were embarrassed twice; to be shown in the rich men’s wild eyes and to be shown in television, watched by television viewer—including me. According this law, the girls are sinner, not the pimp, not men in the show. If the law wants to protect children and women from the human trading, why it sacrificed women?

Girls’ face who bend over in police office are covered patch up by their jacket, scarf, and hair. When I was watching this, my mind is quick jumping into the incident that happened about 2.000 years ago in dusty corner in Middle East region. In court of the Temple, when Jesus was teaching, a group of religion leaders, the scribes, and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery (John 7:53-8:11). Purportedly, according the tradition in this time, the adulterer woman’s dress has to be ripped. She—was like striptease dancer girls—embarrassed twice too. First, when she was herded without defense from her lover who probably escape or join with the accuser because the woman had seduced him to commit adultery. Second, now in front of Jesus and crowd, she is being show object and being bait to trap Jesus. Wild eyes grope the scare, alone women who try to cover her breast which being exposed. This is exactly to what happened in our country, the religion leader endeavor to “fortified the nation holiness” and guard the law. Nevertheless, they are unfair. The law just applied to weak, minority, and non-political armed citizens.

Moreover, among the crowd religion leaders asking Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught red-handed in the act of adultery. Moses, in the Law, gives orders to stone such persons. What do you say?”

In the incident of woman taken in adultery, Jesus take the issue beyond on law, sinners punishing, and moral purity. Jesus invites every body who being there to examine their heart and thought. Instead of answer the Pharisees ask, had the women being punished or not, Jesus ask the accuser about their sincerity and suitability to punished her. “The sinless one among you, go first: Throw the stone,” firmly Jesus said. Afterward hearing that, they walked away, one after another, beginning with the oldest. The woman was left alone.

When every body were walked away, Jesus gave the clear command to the woman (also to me). “Go on your way. From now on, don’t sin.” He does not deny her sin. However, he does not make her a moral scapegoat to suppress their guilty feeling because being obsessed by their sexual fantasy.
Almost every body knows that men who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Therefore, the guiltiness is not how exposed the woman body, but how dirty of men fantasy. Do you remember the incident of police officer who raped his prisoner’s girl friend? Did the girl plan to seduce the wanton police officer? Actually, does he have dirty thought previously? Alternatively, do we try to find justification to defense our men ego and hiding the dump in our mind?

The religion may never being mistreatment for political advantages. Especially, it may not being abused for cover our rottenness. Religion has to be guidance to our consciousness not to be our bludgeon of our life way. Additionally, religion is not source of homogenizing the nation thinking way. Religion is a habit foundation according of follower believing. Religion has to be a moral fortress through leaders’ example, not to be barbed wire, which hurting who comes to it, exterminate the sinners who repent. If there are many pornographic materials in our surroundings, the source is not from outside of our life, but in our mind. Evil always tempt us, but we cannot blame others as an evil because our weaknesses to fight our thought.
